So I'm in the kitchen early this morning working on my iPad and my wife Mary comes in to check on her turkey in the oven. Today we're having a Thanksgiving lunch with our dear friends and staff at the office to get the holidays rolling and she's bringing the bird. As she opens the oven and tries to maneuver the pan, I can see that she's struggling a little with the heat and size of the turkey, so I get up to offer my help and she says, "no thanks, you can't do it".
What was that? Did I hear her right? "I Can't Do It"...Really? At first I was shocked, then stunned, as she stopped me dead in my tracks. I started to shake and convulse, immediately I could feel my blood pressure rise and hands sweat. She evidently saw my face turn red and began bowing in an act of apology saying, "No, that's not what I meant. You can do it...you can do anything!" Catastrophe averted!
How do you respond when someone says to you, "you can't do it"? Do you find it offensive and demeaning or do those words cause you to doubt self? Does it make you mad or do you find yourself in agreement with the sentiments? If words are just words, then why do those words in particular impact us like they do?
Greatness will always put us in the place where our talents and skills are in question. Many times throughout our day we will be faced with the "can't do" proposition and it's up to us to respond. The good news is we can do whatever we put our mind to doing. Sure, we'll have to think differently and work more diligently if we want to do the new, but that's what life should be about. You Can Do It!
The next time you are told you can't do something, let it make you mad so you'll be fueled with energy and passion to do it anyway. I didn't let that big bird keep me from being the man of my house. Sure it was dead and I outweighed it by about 200 lbs, but it put up a pretty good fight. However, it was my skill, brute strength, and quick reflexes that put that turkey in his rightful place.
I always like hearing from you, so tell me below how you deal with the "can't do's" and "big birds" in your life?

Hi Ps. Steve, great anecdote!
In my experience, I've realized that I dealt with the "can't do's" by making it a point to proof my-self and that person that they wrong. However, I have to be very careful since some battles are really not worth fighting. Sometimes, I have to remind myself that I KNOW I CAN. And regardless of what that other person says, my ability to accomplish the task in question remains intact.
I look forward to reading more of your posts. :)
"Can't do it"? As my uncle would say, "Thems fightin' words!" That's exactly what happens when I hear them or infer them from the way I'm looking at a particular situation. My old self likes to agree with the words, but then my new self kicks in and starts searching for what God's said about me that makes the "can't" a "can". Even if I don't remember a scripture, I start looking at why the enemy has piped up with his "can't" baloney, and I realize I must be really close to something God wants for me. That's my cue to press into Him, and before I know it, I've forgotten all about that the devil said I..what were we talking about again?
Thanks for staying connected with us every week, Pastor Steve.
Pastor Steve,
Do you have a camera lense focused on my thoughts? Sometimes these stupid mental monsters get the best of me and lead to procrastination. Encourged by your words today. Now I need to get to work and make up for lost time.
_I can do it!

Yes,I can. Gotta tell myself that regularly, especially when it comes to breaking out of past limitations. Someone once said "You cannot stop the man of faith." When my resolve or determination fails,as it sometimes does,His grace is sufficient. Love you, Pastor!
That was priceless! It reminds me of when my daughter was a toddler and I would say "you can't do it" and she would scream "I do it!!!" and you know what? She did most of the time, if we could keep that innocence, faith and confidence, we could do it all. I gotta go do something...right now.
Thanks one mo' time Pastor!
That was great! I literally Laughed Out Loud! Wow the "YOU CAN'T DO IT" words! I have so many of those stories! Fortunately, I'm the type of person that I'm always up for the challenge, never want to feel like i'm getting beat or beaten down...as I've had friends tell me YOU WILL NEVER AMOUNT to...blah blah ....in my younger years. Guess what gf I have I did and always will because as my dear Mima would say "WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!" and the law at Home is those words DO NOT exist! They CAN NOT be mentioned. I remember Victor as a young boy had to learn to open the door with his new key. The lock was a bit tricky I spent hours with him as he cried, pouted and kept saying I CAN'T and I remember looking him straight in his face and saying YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO DO! THERE'S NO SUCH THING!( SORRY for the caps I was very passionate about it at the time)lol. But that's what I always hear God tell me! Hope that turkey was good..I'll take left overs!
